A few years ago i was on the R62 between Zoar and ladismith on my way to Cape Town. I had pulled over to drink water when another bike stopped behind me, a guy and his wife wearing CMA colours (Christian Motorcycle Association), he climbed off the bike and walking to me stopped, pointing to my back tyre, my heart sank and i walked to the back of the bike, the steel thread was glistening in the sun, how i had not seen it i will never know but these things happen. The couple insisted on praying for me with his hand on my shoulder, gave me the book and i thanked them. Riversdale was the closest town i would find a shop with tyres about 150km so i headed down at a very slow pace, and reached it much to my surprise. A tyre fitment center was on the left, not bike but a car place so i thought i would ask them if they knew were i could find a tyre. The guy behind the counter laughed, tomorrow is xmas and everything is closed, hold on, he went to the back and came out with a Chinese brand tyre 180 not 190 and smiling he said this is it. To my amazement they guys working there pulled the wheel off and using tyre spanners fitted the new tyre in about 30 mins. I did Cape town and back to Durban on that ZX14 plus about a 1000 kms before i changed that tyre. Years later i still have the book “Hope for the Highway” truth be told i am to scared to throw it away, best not to tempt fate. If the divine intervention had not happened the tyre would of blown, no way i would of made Cape Town. What made the guy stop behind me, what made a random garage have a tyre for a bike, what what what ā¦.
To quote Johnny Nash
There are more questions than answers
Pictures in my mind that will not show
There are more questions than answers
And the more I find out the less I know
Yeah, the more I find out the less I know
