🎸 Behind the Track
The Album: “It Ain’t Easy” is a standout masterpiece from Supermax’s third studio album, Fly With Me, released in 1979. The album became a massive commercial triumph, particularly exploding across Germany, Austria, and Eastern Europe.
The Signature Groove: Spearheaded by Austrian musical architect Kurt Hauenstein, the track perfectly defines the project’s unique “Reggae-Disco” fusion. It locks into a heavy, repetitive, slow-burning bassline paired with ethereal synthesizers and dark, sultry female backing vocals.
The Message: The song reflects Hauenstein’s frequent themes of standing strong against societal pressures and navigating the grit of the music industry—delivered with his signature cool, spoken-word-style vocal delivery.
Cultural Phenomenon: Just like their previous work, this track helped cement Supermax as a massive underground icon behind the Iron Curtain, where their records became highly prized, defining club anthems.
