In South Africa, hunting dogs are used to pursue wild game, leveraging their speed, strength, and keen senses. These dogs are typically bred or trained for specific roles in hunting, such as tracking,
I spoke to a guy a while back, he was doing mining exploration for an overseas company in the Congo, drilling to check for minerals, if they find a rich deposit, hands are greased and deals are sealed then the mountain is raped and plundered and left a desolate heap of rock and dust, cars are bought, minerals exported, and life goes on, the rich a lot better off and the poor worse off now than they ever were.
Chatting we got around to food and he stated that he only eats meat the company supply’s, any meat bought is “bush meat” meaning anything that moves in the jungle is slaughtered and boiled. “if you walk in the jungle its eerily quiet, void of animals and birds, anything makes a noise it’s in the pot before it can fart.
On my travels i have come across many of these hunting parties usually carrying a dead animal with dogs in tow. A large variety of wire snares are used, the animal gets trapped and its leg usually almost amputated, there it lays until it either dies from blood loss or hunger or the hunters return in a few days and the dogs kill it.
There is no food and this hunting is needed to sustain one’s self so i am told.
I have been told the dogs are not fed for a few days before the hunting expedition so as to get them going, a well fed dog is not of much use. The practice is illegal and the law is ignored, its a cultural thing and they way things are done in Africa. I find it barbaric and cruel, it is not necessary to make animals suffer this way. That said i also think hounds hunting foxes for sport is sickening, this is the way i am, there is nothing that can be done, one day everything will have been killed and no one seems to care.
There is no pain in Africa except your own pain. If politicians stopped stealing the money for cars and holiday homes the people would have food, a nasty cycle of perpetual poverty were the animals are the scapegoat.
